What are the causes of Eutrophication? -Eutrophication is due largely in part by fertilizer; the runoff spills into lakes. Because fertilizer is 27% Phosphorous and 12% Nitrogen, it contains the two most integral chemicals in eutrophication. -A Eutrophic lake has 84.4 milligrams of Phosphorous per cubed meter. From this, we can determine that it takes only 312.6 milligrams of fertilizer to make 1 cubed meter of water eutrophic.
