Consequences of Eutrophication:
-The water's Oxygen content is depleted because the algae use most of it. Also, as the dead animal and plant matter decomposes, oxygen is used. As a result of this, some of the fish population in the lake goes extinct due to lack of Oxygen, or asphyxiation.
-Because of the lack of oxygen, correct nutrients, and over abundance of bad nutrients in the water, animals, and even humans could suffer severely. The immune systems of the animals in and around the lake will become weak.
-The Algae Content in the water makes the water unpalatable. Furthermore, certain algae release toxins, making the water poisonous for humans and animals alike.
-The Algae on the surface blocks sunlight from reaching underwater plants. As a result of this, the underwater plants die because the process of photosynthesis is halted. When these plants die, no Oxygen is produced, meaning the lakes already dangerously low Oxygen levels are not replenished.
